It has been possible to file criminal charges online in Thuringia for a good year now. Technically, however, the system is not yet fully developed.

Erfurt (dpa/th) – A good year after the start of the online police station in Thuringia, according to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), a good 12,800 criminal charges have been filed via the Internet. An LKA spokeswoman said on request that about half of the reported crimes were property and counterfeiting offences. These, in turn, deal almost exclusively with fraud and cybercrime. The so-called online police station has been in place in Thuringia since the beginning of July 2021. For classification: the police crime statistics list a total of around 130,000 recorded crimes for 2021.

According to the LKA, with increasing awareness of the possibilities of filing advertisements online, the volume increases continuously. Almost a third of the offenses reported online relate to crimes against public order, including insults, slander or damage to property. In addition, almost 1,600 other tips, such as traffic accidents or administrative offenses, were received online. With digital ad recording, the IP number of the device transmitting the ad is saved. This is to prevent misuse of the online watch.

Uploading file attachments such as photos or videos is not yet possible for online criminal complaints when filing complaints. According to LKA information, however, this has nothing to do with technical problems, but corresponds to the plans. An upload function is planned for the further expansion of the online watch. According to its deputy state chairman Wolfgang Gäbler, the police union (GdP) wants this to happen in the near future. However, it is important that the system then also works – “so that no additional work arises”.

The online watch for acute emergencies is not intended. The police emergency number 110 must be dialed here.
