Jerichow (dpa/sa) – A fire broke out in a forest in the Jerichower Land district. In the morning, the control center was informed about a forest fire near Nielebock near Jerichow, the district announced on Thursday. The MDR Saxony-Anhalt had previously reported about it. Around 90 emergency services were able to bring the fire under control on site, it said in the late afternoon. Residual extinguishing work still needs to be done. A nearby road has since been closed.

It was still unclear how long the extinguishing work should take. The district also made no statements about the size of the affected area and the cause of the fire. In the Jerichower Land district, the highest forest fire danger level was 5 on Thursday.
