Markus Kolke is an experienced goalkeeper, the goalkeeper from Hansa Rostock has played around 300 professional league games. But the faux pas he made against Darmstadt 98 is unique in his long career. And should remain so. Because the curious blunder led to a “beautiful poop goal”.

“A nice poop goal!” Markus Kolke could almost laugh again when he was asked about the slapstick goal that conceded FC Hansa Rostock’s 0:4 (0:3) defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga at Darmstadt 98 on Saturday evening. This time the experienced goalkeeper, who has saved a number of points for Hansa in just over two years and worked his way up to captain in the team, was clearly the culprit. And is now ready for every sports annual review.

But what actually happened? After an intercepted cross, the FCH keeper calmly put the ball in front of him and looked for a suitable pass. Darmstadt striker Philipp Tietz sprinted up and slotted in the free ball in the third minute to give Hessen a 1-0 lead early on Kolke at Sport1. “Then I try to put Rossi (teammate Damian Roßbach) a little higher on the left and want to chip the ball over. I then look to the left for too long, you don’t have that much time. Tietz takes advantage of that, he recognized it. A nice goalkeeping mistake for the media, you can write nice videos and headlines. It was a blackout.”

His Darmstadt keeper colleague Marcel Schuhen sympathized. “For a goalkeeper, a mistake like that always looks stupid.” But Kolke, who has been hardened in more than 300 second and third division games, does not want to deal with the faux pas for too long. “You shouldn’t run into the dressing room crying. Anger about it for another two hours or two days and then the matter is over,” explained Kolke, who definitely doesn’t want to repeat the buck under any circumstances. “I know it won’t happen a second time.”
