The Central Penitentiary Surveillance Court has agreed to grant semi-liberty to Rosalía Iglesias, wife of former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas. The decision was taken almost three years after she entered prison for the ‘Gürtel case’, for which she was sentenced to almost 13 years in prison.

The court has assessed the behavior of Iglesias during his stay in the Alcalá Meco prison, stressing that he has participated in all the scheduled activities, has not caused any type of conflict and, in addition, has sent a letter in which he voluntarily conveys his repentance.

In this letter, to which the court refers, Bárcenas’ wife asks “forgiveness to Spanish society” and shows her absolute “repentance”. “I want to apologize to all those affected, to Spanish society and to my family for the damage caused,” she adds. “Both my husband and I have designated all the accounts both in Spain and abroad to meet financial responsibilities. Please forgive me and accept my forgiveness,” she added. Likewise, the court reports that Iglesias already has a job offer and will start working soon.

It should be remembered that her husband, also convicted in the ‘Gürtel case’, already enjoys a regime of semi-liberty after being sentenced to 29 years in prison and having fully served a good part of the sentence.
