Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office has brought charges against two suspected terrorist suspects. A 39-year-old Syrian from Wuppertal is said to have joined the Al-Nusra Front, which was then al-Qaeda, in 2013, the authority said on Monday.

As the commander of a 20-strong combat unit, he is said to have been involved in combat operations in the Syrian civil war. He faces up to ten years in prison if the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court allows the charges to be brought to trial.

Another charge is against a 30-year-old from Bielefeld. He is said to have supported the terrorist group Islamic State in 2014 with a total of 750 euros. The accused is at large. In his case, too, the Higher Regional Court must now decide whether to allow the indictment.
