Wuppertal/Karlsruhe (dpa/lnw) – The Federal Court of Justice has confirmed the acquittal of a defendant in the Springmann murder case in Wuppertal. The public prosecutor had accused the 49-year-old of having killed the wealthy Wuppertal entrepreneur couple Christa and Enno Springmann together with the grandson of the murder victims in March 2017.

While the life sentence for the grandson is already final, so is the acquittal. The Federal Court of Justice found that although it had been proven that the accused had been at the scene of the crime, it could not be ruled out that he only entered the property after the elderly couple had already died.

As was also announced on Monday, the Wuppertal district court has now declared the Springmanns’ grandson, who was convicted of murder, to be unworthy of inheritance. According to a spokesman, a foundation and the couple’s son are now inheriting most of the assets of those killed. This was decided by a civil division of the court.
