Ettlingen (dpa / lsw) – Six firefighters were slightly injured in a wildfire near Ettlingen (Karlsruhe district) on Thursday. The injuries were caused when the wind turned and drove the smoke from the flames in their direction, said a fire department spokesman on Thursday evening. In addition, a fire engine was slightly damaged in the fire on a total of around 16 hectares.
Because of the fire, federal highway 3 near Ettlingen was also closed. Several fire brigades were deployed with a total of 140 forces. A police helicopter also helped in the search for embers. The fire was back under control by 6 p.m. The fire brigade will be busy until the evening to see whether the fire could flare up again due to individual embers, said a fire brigade spokesman. The cause of the fire initially remained unclear.
Part of the embankment on nearby Autobahn 5 also caught fire. Despite the smoke, drivers could still see far enough there, a police spokesman said. The A5 therefore did not have to be closed.
