Aachen (dpa / lnw) – One year after the partial collapse of a ceiling in an old building in Eschweiler affected by the flood, the investigations are discontinued. An expert identified a static error from the 1930s as the cause of the accident, said a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Aachen on Thursday. The “Aachener Zeitung” reported. The investigation was conducted against unknown persons.
Four weeks after the July flood in 2021, a wooden ceiling on the first floor of the residential and commercial building in Eschweiler’s pedestrian zone collapsed. A resident was trapped and injured. The woman had to be freed by rescuers from the fire brigade in a dramatic hour-long rescue operation. During the flood disaster, large parts of downtown Eschweiler and the affected house were in the water.
