The Danish shipping company Maersk is rushing from profit to profit thanks to enormously increased prices for container transport.

In view of the continued tight supply chains and the associated high freight rates, the industry giant from Copenhagen recorded a bottom line profit of 15.4 billion US dollars (around 15.1 billion euros) in the first half of 2022. That was more than double the profit for the same period last year. Sales rose sharply by more than 50 percent to $40.9 billion, according to A.P. Møller-Mærsk for the second quarter and first half of the year.

In 2021, Maersk had made more money than any Danish company in a year before with a profit of 18 billion dollars. With the current half-year figures, the group is well on the way to breaking this record again. Maersk delivered an exceptionally strong result in the second quarter of 2022 and thus recorded its 15th quarter with a series of improved results compared to the same period last year, emphasized CEO Søren Skou.

Maersk had already raised its forecast for the year as a whole the day before. The company expects that the unusual market situation will only return to normal in the final quarter of the current year.
