Mering (dpa / lby) – The criminal police are investigating in connection with a disruption in rail traffic between Munich and Augsburg. The fault is due to damage to a cable duct near Mering (Aichach-Friedberg district). As a result, signal and supply lines as well as communication technology were affected, the police said on Tuesday. There are indications that a fire had been set in the cable duct. The police did not provide any further details.

While traffic on the four tracks of local and long-distance traffic was still disrupted on Monday, according to Deutsche Bahn, the two tracks of local traffic were open again on Tuesday. “The majority of local and long-distance trains can again run between Augsburg and Munich,” said a spokeswoman. However, there could still be train cancellations and diversions. The two long-distance tracks should be passable again from Wednesday morning. A total of 15 cables with more than 500 wires had to be replaced.
