Sinzing (dpa / lby) – After the fatal fall of an elderly woman during a rescue operation in the Upper Palatinate, the Regensburg public prosecutor’s office is investigating on suspicion of negligent homicide against unknown persons. An expert was called in to clarify the course of the accident, a spokesman for the authorities said on Monday. There are still no results as to whether someone was to blame for the fall.
The 75-year-old woman had to be taken from her apartment on the second floor of a house in Sinzing (Regensburg district) on Friday evening for medical reasons. Because the lady was very overweight, this was not possible through the stairwell, according to the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office. The woman should be rescued through the window.
The fire brigade put the woman on a stretcher and fastened it under the basket of a turntable ladder, the spokesman said. For unknown reasons, the stretcher turned 90 degrees and the elderly fell almost five and a half meters to the ground. She died at the scene of the accident.
