Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Social welfare expenditure in Hesse rose to almost 703 million euros in 2021. As the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden, the value was 3.6 percent higher than in the previous year. According to the information, the average net expenditure was around 98 euros per inhabitant. With a total of 433 million euros, care aid accounted for the largest share of expenditure.
The city of Frankfurt recorded the highest expenditure per inhabitant at around 229 euros. They were lowest in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg at just under 42 euros. Expenditure per inhabitant was higher in urban districts than in rural districts.
Aid for subsistence, care, health and to overcome special social difficulties and help in other situations are included in the statistics. On the other hand, not included are the needs-based basic security, Hartz IV, integration assistance for the disabled and benefits for asylum seekers. For the value of the net expenditure, the income from the sponsors, for example from repayments of aid already granted (e.g. repayment of loans), was deducted.
