The Corona crisis has strengthened the trend towards camping holidays. The places have adjusted to this and expanded their offer.
Rostock (dpa / mv) – The camping industry in the state is satisfied with the way the season has gone so far. As the managing director of the state camping association, Christin Lemcke, said, the start of the season was rather sluggish – but in the meantime the sites have reported good to very good occupancy. However, there is still enough capacity. These free places could be accessed via the “campfindo.de” website developed in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Guests can also use the website to search for free capacities in Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
There are around 200 campsites in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the record year 2020, 5.6 million overnight stays were registered, but such a high value is not to be expected this year. Because in contrast to the past two years, trips abroad are now possible again. It is currently noticeable that there are significantly fewer short trips. “The guests stay longer in one place, which is probably due to the high fuel prices,” said Lemcke.
In the past two years, the corona pandemic has accelerated the trend towards camping. In the great outdoors, keeping your distance is much easier and the transmission paths of the virus are greatly reduced. Many campsites have adapted to the higher number of guests and have expanded their offer with swimming pools or indoor playgrounds, for example.
