The gas crisis is also having a negative impact on the baths. The operators of the mineral and thermal baths warn of serious economic upheavals.
Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The 35 mineral and thermal baths in Baden-Württemberg are expecting severe restrictions on operations as a result of the escalating gas crisis. This was explained by the President of the Baden-Württemberg Spa Association, Fritz Link, in Stuttgart. “The majority of mineral and thermal spa operators assume that at least some areas of the thermal baths would have to be closed.” Among other things, this would affect the most energy-intensive areas, such as pools and sauna areas.
Against the background of the difficult economic situation, this would lead to massive problems and the reopening of the thermal and mineral spas would be uncertain, at least in individual cases, the President said.
Link asked for support from politicians. It is urgently needed, since serious consequences for the health economy, especially in rural areas, are to be expected and this must be prevented. In the southwest there are 55 spas and health resorts.
Association President Link pointed out that the problems caused by the corona pandemic were still having an impact. “Despite the lifting of the restrictions, the effects of Corona on visitor behavior and volume are very noticeable.” Some mineral and thermal spas also only saw half of their pre-pandemic attendance figures.
