The northern hemisphere begins another week of oppressive heat on Monday, with temperatures expected to quickly exceed 40 ° C in Italy and Spain, a record temperature in China, and devastating fires in Canada and California.

In this context of accelerating global warming in the world, Manon Aubry proposed, on Europe 1 this Monday, to name each heat wave episode with the name of a company that emits a lot of greenhouse gases.

“I propose that each heat wave, we give it the name of its leaders, starting with the fossil companies. We could call the first heat wave the name of Total” declares @ManonAubryFr on

“When we have climatic disasters, like tornadoes for example, we often give them a name. I make a proposal: that each heat wave, we call it by the name of its leaders, starting with the fossil companies, ”launched the MEP for La France insoumise this Monday on the radio.

She explains that she wants to make people understand that “it is not a heat wave that we are experiencing, [but] the direct consequence of political action and the absence of regulation of the fossil industries”. The MEP also castigated the Legion of Honor awarded to the CEO of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanné on July 14, “one of the first responsible” for global warming according to her.

“It’s an insult, when you’re suffocating in Europe. The only thing the government finds to do is to decorate one of the first officials, “said Manon Aubry.

A regular target of climate activists, TotalEnergies was questioned earlier this week by the NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW), which considered that the mega oil project led by the French giant in Uganda was a “disaster” for the population, had “devastated the livelihoods of thousands of people” and “will contribute to the global climate crisis”. TotalEnergies had on the contrary affirmed “to put the environmental and biodiversity issues as well as the rights of the communities concerned at the center of the project”.
