Nearly a thousand flights to and from Italy have been canceled this Saturday due to the airport ground staff strike, which demands a renewal of their collective agreement, which expired six years ago.

The planned stoppage between 10:00 AM (08:00 GMT) and 6:00 PM (4:00 PM GMT) affects nearly 250,000 travelers on local and international flights.

Nearly 200 flights to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Barcelona, ??Palma de Mallorca or Catania, in Sicily, were canceled at the Fiumicino-Leonardo Da Vinci airport in Rome.

The flights of Malta Air, which operates Ryanair routes, Ita Airways (formerly Alitalia) and Vueling, whose pilots joined the movement, were also affected.

The Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini, called for the “common sense” of the unemployed workers to “not harm millions of other employees and tourists.”

On the other hand, in Belgium, a total of 120 flights to and from Charleroi airport were canceled on Saturday and Sunday due to a strike by low-cost airline Ryanair pilots.
