Augsburg (dpa / lby) – A man died after a fire in an Augsburg apartment building. A resident heard the alarm of a smoke detector last Wednesday and dialed the emergency number, the police said on Monday.
The 72-year-old was rescued from the apartment with serious injuries and flown to the hospital in a rescue helicopter, where he died on Monday night. The cause of the fire was still unclear. According to the police, initial findings indicate that a cigarette smoked in bed caused the fire.
