Plants and animals thirst for water, people for cooling. At the start of the week it’s time to hold on again. Then the situation should relax a bit, also in the woods. However, there is a risk of hail here and there.
Munich (dpa/lby) – The summer stays, is less hot, but muggy: After an almost unbearably warm start to the week with well over 30 degrees Celsius, Bavaria is facing a cooling down with rain, storm and thunderstorms. The risk of forest fires should decrease in the middle of the week, even in Lower Franconia, which has been badly hit by drought. Occasionally, larger hailstones must also be expected.
The German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Monday that hailstones of up to three centimeters in size could fall from the sky most likely in Franconia on Tuesday night. In northern Bavaria, however, there should also be stormy gusts up to a speed of 110 kilometers per hour. In southern Bavaria, there could be local heavy rain with precipitation of up to 50 liters per square meter within a few hours.
According to the forecast, temperatures in the Free State will be between 23 and 29 degrees on Tuesday. The following days they should level off in this area.
“The perceived temperature does not go back as much as the measured one,” said a DWD spokesman in Munich. The reason is the high humidity. “It will remain muggy.” In the second half of the week, little will probably change.
On Tuesday the sun was significantly less present than last. “Large parts of Bavaria will remain dry from Tuesday.” At night, the temperatures should be a pleasant 10 to 16 degrees.
The forest fire risk decreases depending on how much it has rained before. In the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest it is likely to decrease more, in Franconia and in Swabia possibly not so clearly, said the spokesman.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the mountains from the afternoon on Wednesday.
