Kassel (dpa/lhe) – Hesse’s former Justice Minister Eva Kühne-Hörmann has been elected by the CDU in Kassel as a candidate for the mayoral election in her hometown next year. This was confirmed by the CDU district association in Kassel-Stadt on Monday. Kühne-Hörmann received 85.4 percent of the votes and will compete against the incumbent Mayor Christian Geselle (SPD) in the March 2023 election.
The CDU politician was Minister in Hesse from 2009 – initially for science and art, later for justice. After the departure of Prime Minister Volker Bouffier, his successor Boris Rhein (both CDU) no longer considered her for the cabinet. The 60-year-old replaced Bouffier as a member of the Hessian state parliament.
