Fürth (dpa / lby) – The strawberry harvest in Bavaria falls short of expectations. The State Office for Statistics assumes 9100 tons, as announced on Thursday. That is 18 percent less than a year ago and 22.5 percent less than the multi-year average.

On the one hand, the fact that the area under cultivation fell by 7.1 percent to 1,600 hectares contributed to the decline. In addition, the harvest volume per hectare is expected to have fallen by 14.1 percent. Actually, the weather conditions in spring had promised a good strawberry season. However, the rising cost of living slowed demand, which is why some farmers refrained from harvesting strawberries to save costs. All figures for 2022 are only projections so far, and according to the information, final figures will not be available until the beginning of next year.
