Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The number of first-year students in North Rhine-Westphalia has fallen again. As reported by the State Statistical Office (IT.NRW) on Thursday, 7.8 percent fewer first-year students enrolled at NRW universities in 2021 than a year earlier (112,422). Of the 103,699 new students, 17,407 came from abroad. The number of so-called foreign students was 6.2 percent higher than in 2020. Compared to the pre-Corona year 2019 ((118,848), the total number of first-year students even fell by 12.7 percent, the statisticians determined.
Foreign nationals are foreign nationals who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad or at a preparatory college in Germany. Preparatory colleges offer preparatory courses for foreign applicants.
