Erfurt (dpa/th) – The CDU parliamentary group has called on the Free State to act on the accommodation of refugees from the Ukraine. “The country has to wake up now and finally help the municipalities to accommodate and care for Ukrainian refugees,” said the parliamentary group’s migration policy spokesman, Stefan Schard, according to the statement on Wednesday. In addition, the Free State must quickly clarify where it can provide suitable rooms for accommodation.

The arrival of large Roma families in recent days also creates new problems both in organizing accommodation and finding premises, as well as in the enormous costs and acceptance of citizens. According to the state administration office, almost 24,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Thuringia so far.

The Thuringian district assembly had already made an appeal to the state government last week. According to a letter from President Martina Schweinsburg (CDU) to Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left), the districts’ possibilities for adequate accommodation have been exhausted. The country must provide community accommodation itself. The state government had so far given a refusal.
