Munich (dpa / lby) – The number of divorces in Bavaria in 2021 remained stable compared to the previous year. As reported by the State Statistical Office on Wednesday, 21,605 marriages were divorced – 121 (0.6 percent) more than in 2020. Among the couples divorced last year, 109 were same-sex couples.
In about 48 percent of all cases, a woman filed the divorce papers, in 42 percent a man. Around ten percent had been applied for jointly by both partners. 3232 and thus 15 percent of the divorced couples had been married to each other for 25 years or more, the office said.
5651 couples (26 percent) had a minor child at the time of the divorce, 4545 couples (21 percent) had two children under the age of 18. In 2021, a total of 17,749 children were affected by their parents’ divorce.
According to its own information, the State Statistical Office has registered a steady decline in divorces since 2011. The highest number of divorces was 29,992 in 2003.
