It’s bad news before the start of the season: Leon Goretzka is injured. FC Bayern will have to do without the 27-year-old for a few weeks because he underwent knee surgery. He is probably not available for the Supercup and the start of the Bundesliga.
FC Bayern Munich will have to do without national soccer player Leon Goretzka on their trip to the USA and probably also at the start of the season. The 27-year-old underwent surgery on his left knee to deal with his ongoing problems. The club confirmed the corresponding media reports on Monday afternoon.
The FC Bayern medical department “found an abnormality in the left knee, which was removed arthroscopically this Monday,” it said in a brief statement on the website. The intervention was “according to plan and successful”. Bayern did not provide any information on the duration of the outage. Goretzka is expected to be out for six to eight weeks. He was absent from December to March last season due to knee problems.
“It was a difficult situation and a stupid injury that I didn’t know what it was and how and when it would go away,” he said recently. But he has “no aftermath”. The midfielder started training after the international matches in the Nations League and his vacation on July 8th.
The German record champions have strengthened their position with Ryan Gravenberch (Ajax Amsterdam). In addition, Konrad Laimer is said to come from league rivals RB Leipzig.
Bayern stays in the USA until Sunday and will play the first two friendlies of the season there: on Thursday night (1.30 a.m. CEST) in Washington at DC United and on Sunday night (1 a.m. CEST) in Green Bay against the English team Master Manchester City.
On July 30th, the Munich team will have their first competitive game of the new season in the Supercup against cup winners RB Leipzig. The German soccer champions will open the Bundesliga season on August 5 at Eintracht Frankfurt.
