After the Austrian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel once again left his future in Formula 1 open. But now an option is being discussed that might offer him a completely new perspective. A well-known racing team should already be dealing with his commitment.

Grand Prix victories in the Aston Martin? This dream will not come true for Sebastian Vettel this Formula 1 season either. The four-time world champion is unable to hide his disappointment from week to week. Accordingly, the rumors about a possible resignation after the season are getting louder.

However, a very attractive back door could open for the Heppenheimer. As the “BBC” reports, the name of the German was last traded with another racing team: McLaren. The traditional British team is said to have long been looking for a successor to Daniel Ricciardo internally. Sebastian Vettel was also targeted by Zak Brown and Co., writes the British broadcaster.

However, the Heppenheimer is just one of many drivers associated with the Ricciardo cockpit. Just a few days ago, the English media reported that Alpine youngster Oscar Piastri also had a good chance of getting a seat at McLaren.

According to “BBC”, the mind games of the McLaren bosses go even further. It is said that Williams driver and Red Bull homegrown Alex Albon also plays a role in the considerations after his impressive comeback this year.

Last but not least, the British team also deals with Colton Herta. The American, who is currently racing in the IndyCar series, will complete a test in the McLaren this week. Team boss Andreas Seidl told the “BBC”: “We are very interested in seeing how he gets used to a Formula 1 car.” Seidl also called the American a “promising driver”.

What Sebastian Vettel could give the team, however, is well known. Even in the defeated Aston Martin, the four-time world champion has already shown his class this season. In the fight for the front places, however, the veteran has no chance. For this reason, too, he confirmed after the race in Spielberg that he wanted to think about his future in the premier class.

“The decision hasn’t been made yet, but I think it will be in the next few weeks. Of course it depends on the direction the team is taking and how much potential I see in it. I’ve always said that I’m going to Wants to drive points and wins, otherwise it’s not fun,” Vettel revealed that he would like to sit down with his family and discuss how realistic his goals are and whether he would like to continue his career in Formula 1.

What speaks against the wild rumor: McLaren boss Brown had confirmed to RTL / ntv in Silverstone that Ricciardo would drive for his racing team in 2023, wiping the rumors of Ricciardo off the table. In addition, Vettel has a good relationship with Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack, the two have repeatedly reported constructive discussions. The most likely is: Vettel will be at Aston Martin for another year – or retire from F1.
