The 49-year-old triathlete who remained admitted to the Arquitecto Marcide hospital in Ferrol (A Coruña), after fainting during his participation in the Northwest Triman in As Pontes on June 25, has died in the last few hours.
Sources consulted by Europa Press have confirmed this Thursday the death that the Triatlon Channel portal advanced on Wednesday afternoon.
Immediately afterwards, he was transferred to the Arquitecto Marcide Hospital in Ferrol, in whose Intensive Care Unit he had been admitted ever since.
As pointed out by the organization, the health problem occurred when he was facing the second half of the swimming test, the first of the three parts of a triathlon.
A member of the organization was the one who, after receiving the notice from another participant and realizing that the man was floating unconscious, jumped into the water to act as quickly as possible and proceed with his resuscitation.
After medical personnel from the organization performed heart massage for more than 20 minutes, he was transferred to the Arquitecto Marcide Hospital in Ferrol, in whose Intensive Care Unit he had been admitted ever since.
The Madrid triathlete L. A.V.G. he suffered a sudden fainting spell and overexertion was ruled out as the cause since it was still the beginning of the test. He has not revealed if the triathlete had some type of previous pathology that could trigger loss of consciousness.
