Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – The civil protection organizations carried out a large-scale exercise at Frankfurt Airport on Saturday. Among other things, they tested the construction of a so-called staging area for the Frankfurt region. According to the Frankfurt fire department, this is a kind of collection point for emergency vehicles during large-scale operations.
The rescue and fire-fighting vehicles can then move out from there in a targeted manner. “Such well-connected large car parks are important, for example when defusing bombs in areas with many hospitals and care facilities,” said a spokesman for the fire brigade. According to the information, a total of around 75 vehicles from Frankfurt and from the Groß-Gerau district with a total of more than 200 helpers took part.
The disaster protection authority in Frankfurt has so far used two staging areas: one at the Deutsche Bank Park stadium and one at the Taunusblick rest area on the A5. However, these are often occupied, which is why another suitable area was sought.
