The German women’s national soccer team dominated Denmark so much at the start of the European Championship that the Danish press resorted to drastic words after the 4-0 loss: The Scandinavians were said to have been “crushed”. “Really, really bad” was the game of the 2017 European Vice Champion.

The German soccer players got off to a confident start at the European soccer championships in England. The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg won the first group game against Denmark 4-0 on Friday evening. The Danish press writes:

Ekstra Bladet: “Mutual recriminations after severe beatings. Pernille Harder sensed that her teammates were nervous when Denmark were defeated by Germany at the start of the European Championship.”

Jyllands-Posten: “Superior Germany gives the Danish women’s national team a soccer lesson. Total collapse for the Danish women’s national team in the first game of the EURO finals.”

Politiken: “It was really, really bad what Denmark offered in the first game of the European Championship finals against Germany.”

DR: “Lower Denmark were crushed and need to get back on their feet quickly so they don’t go home soon. After Friday’s big defeat against Germany, the Danish national team knows they have to learn from their mistakes if they’re in their European Championship group wants to get ahead.”

In the German camp, on the other hand, everyone was naturally very satisfied – and found the reason for the clear victory in their own strength, not in the opponents: “We played ourselves into a frenzy,” said goal scorer Lea Schüller after the final whistle. And national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg spoke highly satisfied of a “great” performance by the entire team: “There’s nothing to complain about. That gives us a lot of courage and security for this tournament.”
