Elsteraue (dpa/sa) – The Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH (Mibrag) has moved one of its large devices. The approximately 3,800-ton spreader, over which the overburden is dumped, crossed the green main road near Profen on Thursday, as a company spokesman announced. The road had to be closed for several hours for the crossing. A top layer of earth and sand protected the road’s asphalt surface from damage.

About two weeks ago, the spreader, which moves at a speed of six meters per minute, made its way to the road, which is around five and a half kilometers long. After a general repair, the spreader will then be used in the Domsen mining field from October, according to the Mibrag spokesman.

The spreader, built in 1982, is 60 meters high and has a theoretical capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per hour, the spokesman explained. The discharge boom measures 150 meters. The spreader has been in use in the Profen opencast mine since it was commissioned. Enormous preparations had to be made for the journey through the opencast mine and a height difference of around 50 meters had to be overcome.
