Romania’s Simona HALEP, 18th in the World, reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon by defeating Amanda Anisimova (25th), 6-2,6-4. This was three years after she won the title on the London grass. The Romanian won the first set largely, but Anisimova came back at 5-4. The match was concluded on the American’s service. The former world No.1 will attempt to qualify for the second Major final on grass at 30.

Later that day, Kazakh Elena Rybakina (17th seed) beat Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3 in three sets (4-6 6-2 6-3). For the first time in her professional career, she qualifies in the final four of a Grand Slam tournament.

Rybakina was 23 years old and had reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros 2021. However, Rybakina had never made it past the knockout stages at Wimbledon. For a spot in the final, Rybakina will be facing Simona Halep (18th).
