Grevenbroich (dpa / lnw) – On the site of a green area in Grevenbroich, numerous trees caught fire on Sunday night. Several residents noticed the fire, the fire department said on Sunday. The conifers, which are more than ten meters high, burned over a length of around 70 meters.
In order to prevent the fire from spreading to the green area, the trees were extinguished from several sides. The subsequent extinguishing work in the bed of needles under the trees would have taken several hours. According to the fire department, no one was injured.
Details of the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not initially known. Bushes and trees on the site had already caught fire in April.
