Shortly before 10 a.m., the emergency services were alerted. Just before 10 a.m., the gendarmes discovered a car under the road in Valbonnais at level of Pont du Pretre on the departmental road 526.
The vehicle was rolled into a small stream with the wheels still spinning. The firefighters attempted to help the driver but were unable to deploy significant resources. The Samu doctor, who was also sent to the scene, declared him dead.
To raise the body, firefighters from the Intervention Group in Dangerous Environment (Grimp), were mobilized. The area was difficult to reach.
