Radebeul (dpa/sn) – In view of a dramatic development in the personnel situation, the Saxon Teachers’ Association (SLV) has called for immediate measures to relieve teachers. The state government should present a strategy on how to eliminate the underfunding, the SLV announced on Saturday. As an employer, the state government has a duty to protect its employees from further overloads.

According to the association, the situation is getting worse due to the implementation of inclusion, the catching up of knowledge deficits caused by the pandemic and the school integration of Ukrainian children and young people. In May, for example, the Ministry of Education increased the upper limit in the preparatory classes from 23 to 28 students. This is intended to integrate the large number of Ukrainian children into Saxon schools.

“We are increasingly noticing how resignation and hopelessness are spreading among those concerned. The result is that more and more teachers are long-term ill and overburdened or are retiring early,” said Michael Jung, deputy chairman of the Saxon Teachers’ Association. It is a matter of time before the system finally collapses.
