The city councilor was at town hall when his house was targeted by a car ram. His wife and one of his children were injured. An investigation was opened for attempted murder. An act of violence that moves the political class, from right to left.
On Twitter, the boss of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, condemned “facts of extreme gravity which must lead their authors to the assize court”. “The cowardice and ignominy of such an attack will not make him back down. Honor to his courage, ”launched the president of Île-de-France, Valérie Pécresse. “All the milestones are crossed one by one. In a general collapse”, added the deputy LR Aurélien Pradié on the same social network, addressing to the mayor his “unwavering support”. “To attack the life of an elected official and that of his family is to attack the Nation”, lamented on Twitter the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher (LR).
“The Prime Minister condemns these intolerable facts and gives her full support to the mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses and his relatives. She sent a message to the mayor and his family who are still in shock. The culprits will be prosecuted with the greatest firmness,” Matignon said in a statement. “The government stands with all mayors. These attacks and violence against elected officials are unacceptable,” added the head of government.
She spoke on Sunday morning “with the president of the AMIF (Association of mayors of Île-de-France) and that of the AMF (Association of mayors of France) to assure them of her support and that of the government to all the mayors who stand with the residents on the front line in the face of violence”.
On the far right, RN spokesperson Laurent Jacobelli was indignant on France Info at this attack on “a symbol of the Republic”, “a guarantor of the Republic”, pointing to the action of “savage hordes who want to harm France”.
