Alone at the top. Once again, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won the Austrian Grand Prix. This is his fifth victory in a row, the seventh out of nine races contested since the start of the season. At just 25, Verstappen has already won 42 races. He seems to be rolling quietly towards a third world title. Monegasque Charles Leclerc, 2nd, signed Ferrari’s best result this season, while Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) climbed from 15th to 3rd place to complete the podium on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
Already largely the leader before the arrival in the mountains of Styria, the Dutch Verstappen, double defending champion, leaves with a stratospheric lead of 81 points over his closest rival, his teammate Pérez. Winner for the 42nd time in F1, at 25, Mad Max is heading for a third world title in a row.
He became the record holder for victories in the Austrian Grand Prix, with four successes, ahead of Frenchman Alain Prost. Verstappen also signed his fifth victory on this circuit since he had also won the Styrian Grand Prix there, raced in 2021 in addition to the Austrian GP to compensate for cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari) and Lando Norris (McLaren) finished 4th and 5th respectively.
