On Wednesday, June 29, the French Blood Establishment (EFS), published for the second consecutive time, less than six months after its first publication, a critical emergency bulletin. France’s blood reserve levels are historically low. This is a serious situation just before vacation departures and could pose a danger to patients in the short-term. Despite mobilizing donors in June, the blood reserve level is still too low to deal with the summer. It will not be possible for the EFS to supply summer hospitals and clinics with blood products if it doesn’t recover quickly.
The EFS has issued a new alert asking citizens to mobilize in the next 10 working days and make an appointment to donate blood. All donors are welcome, given the urgency of the situation. They are invited to make an appointment as soon as possible and in large numbers over the next few weeks (dondesang.efs.sante.fr).
Also, collections can be organized at vacation locations.
