On Thursday, June 30, the Russian army declared that it had pulled out from Serpents Island, a strategically important position in the Black Sea that Moscow had conquered. It was under Ukrainian bombardment for weeks.

The small island was made famous by a member from the Ukrainian garrison that was defending it, who ordered the Russian ship to surrender and “fuck it”. Before finally giving in.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov stated that the Russian armed forces achieved the goals set on Serpents’ Island on June 30 as a gesture of goodwill and withdrew their garrison. This gesture was aimed at facilitating grain exports from Ukraine, Igor Konashenkov stated.

He said that Russia does not oppose UN efforts in creating a humanitarian corridor to allow Ukraine to export its grain production.

He stated that “this decision will not allow Kyiv any longer to speculate about an impending food crises by saying it is impossible to export grains because Russia’s total control of the northwest Black Sea.” Igor Konashenkov added.

Moscow conquered the island of Serpents in the northwest part of the Black Sea near the Ukrainian and Romanian coastlines.

The missile and drone strikes on the island were then regular.

Russia assured that on June 21 it had defeated a “mad attempt” by kyiv forces for Serpents Island.
