Troisdorf (dpa / lnw) – In front of the eyes of DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, Bundesliga soccer team 1. FC Köln celebrated the expected Schützenfest at the first test match for the new season. The Conference League participant won against TuS Mondorf 12:1 after the state league team had kept the result within limits with 1:3 up to the 63rd minute. Neuendorf, who comes from the region, was president of the Mittelrhein Association before he was elected DFB boss.
The goalscorers on their debut included newcomers Denis Huseinbasic (Kickers Offenbach), Linton Maina (Hannover 96) with a brace and Eric Martel (RB Leipzig). Kristian Pedersen (Birmingham City) also came on after the break. Steffen Tigges, who came from Dortmund, was still missing due to the consequences of an ankle injury. The other goals for FC were scored by Timo Hübers, Anthony Modeste, Kingsley Ehizibue and Joshua Schwirten from the U19s and twice each by his team-mate Maximilian Schmid and Florian Dietz from the U23s.
