Zell (dpa/sn) – The Sorbian football team missed the final of the European Championship for National Minorities (Europeada). The team lost 1-0 to the Carinthian Slovenes – the minority of Slovenes living in Austria – on Friday evening. Until then, the Sorbian kickers had only won, apart from a draw. They won the preliminary round with ease, and in the quarter-finals they defeated the Croatian Serbs 3-1. The Sorbian team had reached the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time.
“The Europeada is more than just football. There will be no negative riots. We would like to send this message to other stadiums as well,” said Loránt Vincze, President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities, at the start of the tournament.
