Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – According to the assessment of the Hessian economy, relatively few refugees from the Ukraine have taken up work in Hesse to date. In many cases, these are women with children who need care for their offspring, who also want to return to their home country and are therefore initially quite reluctant to take up a job, said a spokesman for the Hessian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (HIHK) of the Germans press agency.
Basically, the chances of finding jobs for the refugees are good, especially since many of them have a good education and the official hurdles for taking up work are manageable. However, many of them lack German language skills, which makes it difficult to start work, the spokesman said. No one believes that the shortage of skilled workers in Germany can be remedied with the help of the Ukrainians – and that cannot be the goal at all. The priority must be to offer people security and protection from war.
