Dresden (dpa / sn) – Experts assess the future role of nuclear power in the energy crisis very differently. That is the conclusion of a hearing of experts on Thursday in the Committee for Energy, Climate, Environment and Agriculture of the Saxon State Parliament. The reason for the hearing was a motion by the AfD parliamentary group, which advocates longer operating times for the three remaining German nuclear power plants and a later phase-out of coal. Half of the six invited experts were critical of the energy transition and, at least in theory, saw the chance of using nuclear power beyond 2022. The others saw the future in the greater expansion of renewable energies.
