Erfurt (dpa/th) – Next Saturday the Domstufen Festival in downtown Erfurt will give a first taste. A convertible tram will drive through the city and present small excerpts from Verdi’s opera “Nabucco” with a full cast of musicians and singers from the theatre. According to the organizers, the train will commute between Domplatz and Anger on Saturday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will make intermediate stops at the Domplatz, Fischmarkt and Anger stops.

At the foot of the cathedral steps, construction work has already begun on the stage for the festival. 400 tons of stage material, a crane and around 60 helpers are responsible for the construction. From July 15th to August 7th, “Nabucco” will be presented in 21 performances between Severikirche and Mariendom. Then an 8.5 meter high and ten meter wide wall as well as a five meter high sculpture and fences on the cathedral steps are supposed to take you to Jerusalem and Babylonia. The festival is one of the largest in Thuringia.
