Paderborn (dpa / lnw) – Previously unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM at a shopping center in Paderborn and caused a lot of damage. The police said that shops next to the machine on the outside, which was completely destroyed by the explosion, were also damaged. The perpetrators fled. It was initially unclear how much money they could loot.
Residents called 911 after hearing a loud bang early Monday morning. According to the police, witnesses reported three men who quickly drove away in a black car. A police patrol encountered this getaway car. The police officers were able to recognize the – presumably stolen – number plate and follow the car for a short time, but were then taken off.
The police said there was a lot of property damage. The windows of a discounter and a bakery to the left and right of the machine were damaged, and debris was scattered widely in the parking lot.
