Coburg (dpa / lby) – In the trial for a double murder at the Coburg district court, the judgment date is still open. The accused is currently in the hospital, a court spokesman said on Monday. The next day of negotiations is scheduled for July 12. The 35-year-old man is said to have murdered his ex-girlfriend and her small child. The public prosecutor’s office accuses him of stabbing the woman and her then two-year-old daughter on May 23, 2021 in an asylum seeker’s accommodation in Kronach.

According to the investigation, the man appeared in front of the balcony of his ex-girlfriend’s room in the evening and climbed up there. The woman fled into the kitchen, but the accused is said to have used force to gain entry. First, the 35-year-old is said to have stabbed the little girl, then his ex-partner, with a kitchen knife he bought specifically for this purpose.

The investigators see anger as a possible motive that his ex-partner had aborted their child and separated from him. He is also said to have believed the woman was reunited with her daughter’s father.

After the fact, the Moroccan doused himself with liquid grill lighter and lit himself. This caused a deflagration and rooms in the accommodation also caught fire. The accused survived with serious injuries. He is charged with two counts of murder and aggravated arson. The verdict was originally expected for the end of June.
