Mesut Özil has not played football since March, since when he has been suspended from Fenerbahce Istanbul. He still wants to fulfill his contract, the former international insists. But according to his advisor, the 33-year-old has an additional plan for another career.

Former world champion Mesut Özil could start a new career as an e-sportsman after the end of his football career. “He will go more into e-sports, play himself and maybe become an e-sportsman,” Özil’s advisor Erkut Sögüt told the English “Telegraph”. The 33-year-old is “really good at Fortnite and it wouldn’t surprise me if he competes,” said Sögüt.

The former Germany international owns a team – M10 Esports. “And he has players. He has a player forge in Germany,” added Sögüt. E-sport, the sporting competition with computer games, is now a global market worth millions.

Özil switched to football in January 2021 for the Turkish giants Fenerbahçe Istanbul after his contract with Arsenal FC was terminated prematurely. But at Fenerbahçe the midfielder is also facing the end. In March he was excluded from the squad – the new coach Jorge Jesus also made it clear at the beginning of the month that Özil would remain suspended. In November last year, club president Ali Koc had already complained that Özil finally had to concentrate on his work.

The midfielder’s contract runs until June 30, 2024. Özil wants to fulfill it and stay. “I repeat emphatically: I will not end my career with any team other than Fenerbahçe. As long as my contract is running, my only goal is to just sweat in our shirt. This decision is very clear and final,” he wrote in the early June Social networks.

However, there is speculation about a move to the United States. However, Sögüt reiterated that Özil wants to stay in Istanbul. “I don’t think he will play at any other club. I can’t imagine that – it will be Fenerbahçe and that’s it.”
