The United States and its allies are ready to respond quickly in the event that North Korea launches a new nuclear weapon, according to Antony Blinken, the head of American diplomacy.
Park Jin, his South Korean counterpart, said that North Korea had “completed preparations for another nuke test” and that it needed only a political decision to act. A press conference was held in Washington. He also believed that it would trigger new “international sanctions”.
“We remain concerned about the possibility of what would be the seventh nuclear test,” Antony Blinken said.
He said, “We are in close contact with our allies and partners, beginning with the Republic of Korea and Japan, to be ready to respond quickly.” He added that “We are prepared for all scenarios (…)” and are available to adjust our military position in the short- and long-term, as needed.
Washington believes that Pyongyang is ready to end its nuclear test moratorium.
Antony Blinken promised to keep “the pressure” on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un until he changes his mind, but he also assured that the United States is ready for direct dialogue, “without conditions”. .
