Erfurt (dpa/th) – In the local elections in Thuringia, only two out of seven full-time mayoral posts have to be decided by runoff. In Leinefelde-Worbis (district of Eichsfeld) and Amt Wachsenburg (district of Ilm), none of the four applicants could secure a majority. Here the voters have to go to the ballot box again on June 26th.

In Sonneberg, incumbent Heiko Voigt (independent) defended his post with 66.2 percent of the votes ahead of CDU woman Uta Bätz (20.4 percent). CDU federal party leader Friedrich Merz only traveled to the district town last week and had Bätz’s back there. In Werra-Suhl-Tal (Wartburg district), the individual applicant Maik Klotzbach prevailed with 69.7 percent.

The CDU, which submitted applicants for full-time positions in five of the seven elections, only provides the mayor in Dermbach (Wartburgkreis) with Thomas Hugk (87.2 percent). There was no opponent there. In Kranichfeld, Jörg Bauer from the Aktiv für Kranichfeld association achieved 88.2 percent of the votes. In Wasungen, individual applicant Thomas Kästner received 97.0 percent.
