Stolberg (dpa/sa) – The double jubilee “500 years of the Peasants’ War” and “500 years of Thomas Müntzer” was heralded in Saxony-Anhalt with a ceremony in Stolberg in the southern Harz region. The theologian, reformer and later leader of farmers was born in the small town in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz around 1490 and beheaded in 1525 near Mühlhausen in Thuringia. A spokesman for the district announced on Saturday that in the southern Harz Mountains there were authentic places of the peasant uprising with the castle, Allstedt Castle, the town of Stolberg and Mansfeld Castle.

According to the information, the double anniversary will be celebrated in Saxony-Anhalt in 2025. Events and cultural activities are planned in advance. This includes an exhibition under the motto “Müntzer.Macht.Ernst” in the district in 2024.
