One person has died and nine have been injured in Stockholm when a roller coaster derailed this Sunday, Swedish television reports.
Amusement park workers have told public broadcaster SVT that one of the carriages of the Jetline roller coaster derailed and people fell to the ground in the Grona Lund park.
“It’s incredibly tragic and shocking,” park spokeswoman Annika Troselius told SVT. “Unfortunately, we have been informed that one person has died and many have been injured.”
Police have confirmed that nine people, including children and adults, were hospitalized.
The amusement park was evacuated to facilitate the work of the rescue teams.
SVT reporter Jenny Lagerstedt, who was queuing for the next ride, said the wrecked car was at a high altitude.
“Suddenly I heard a metallic noise and then the cars started to shake,” he said. Rescuers had to remove other passengers who were trapped in other roller coaster cars after the accident.
