Köthen (dpa/sa) – In Köthen, work on connecting the new Prosigker bridge to the road network has begun. “This is the next stage of the largest transport project in the Bach city to date,” said Saxony-Anhalt’s Transport Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP) on Wednesday.

According to a ministry spokesman, the roadways as well as the footpaths and cycle paths in the construction area are to be completely renewed in the project. New surface drainage systems are also planned. The utility companies will also relocate most of the lines. Traffic management is also to be improved, among other things, by new traffic lights. The construction work over a total length of 1.2 kilometers is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

According to the ministry, the overall project is the largest project to date to modernize the road network in Köthen. A total of 20 million euros would be invested here. Construction started in June 2020. The core is the new construction of the Prosigker Bridge over a railway site. It was completed at the end of 2021. The construction costs amounted to around 11.5 million euros.
